Little Crosses

At last my "Little Crosses" quilt is nearly finished - the top is done. Purchased some great backing fabric at the GJ's sale yesterday, red with big white spots. Will endeavour to start quilting tomorrow. The quilt is going to the newest addition to our clan - a baby boy - Harrison - born last week. My darling daughter outrageously stated "is it for his 21st?" when I said I would be hand quilting !!!

Quilting Bee

On Saturday Anne, Louise and Michelle attended a quilting bee in Ashburton with Jan from Sewjourn and some of her quilting group friends. The eight ladies managed to put together most of two tops which will be quilted by a machine quilter in Bendigo and be donated to a women's refuge. The fabrics that we used had been left over from the donations to the quilting bees for quilts for bush fire survivors in 2009. We found it amazing that the seemingly "ordinary" burgundy and green fabrics made up such a lovely quilt with white using this pattern found on the blog Red Pepper Quilts.

The second top was made using some donated blocks in reproduction colours and using up smaller pieces in a pieced border.

Quilt progress

Louise's quilt of crosses is coming along, this is the centre part and there are borders to add next. The kit was from Ballarat Patchwork and we all love the colours. Very crisp and fresh.

Life is not always black and white

I love clear black lines on white.  Like the white pages of my journal, I like to fill them with black squiggles.  And this stitchery quilt, I love the effect of the black back stitch on the white fabric.
When I write I ask questions like, what next? how? when? and while I stitch I wait for the answers.
As I concentrate on the rhythm of the needle and thread sometimes my muse will whisper in my ear - 'you could try this...'

Un-named quilt finished!

Little 'S' and I finished her quilt on Sunday by sewing on all the yo-yos.  I told her she had to name it but she hasn't yet.  We were very pleased with how it turned out.  Thankyou to everyone for donating their pink and purple scraps.
